I specialize in informational video and audio production, combining my background in technical writing and editing with my passion for multimedia. I have experience with writing and editing scripts, producing screen-recorded software training, and shooting live video. I also write and record music, including live bands.
Quick tip: Add a background

This series was an experiment in social media - they were created specifically for people who "like" the Visio page on Facebook. There's a video tab for that page where these are posted, so I put them there several months before Visio 2010 was available. That way people who are interested could get a look at the new features early.

Was it successful? Not really. There was no way to get video metrics from Facebook, and few people left comments. So I posted them on YouTube also, because it's more likely that people will search there for Visio 2010 demos.

What's new in Visio 2010 for secret agents

I created this video to show not only what's new in the latest version of Visio, but to show how the new features can be used. The secret agent plot was simply because I thought it would be more fun to make and to watch than a standard business-oriented scenario would be - the diagramming techniques are the same no matter what kind of diagrams and data you work with.

Clarity ep. 6: Create a timeline

This is a series I create for work. The idea behind it is to help people get better at using Visio without having to put much effort into learning. I think the biggest hurdle to learning is just finding out what's possible - after you see an example of an interesting technique it's not too hard to figure out how to do it yourself.

I use After Effects for the sets and animation. There's no real budget for the series, and only two people are involved in every episode; I do the production work and Ron Owens (another writer in the group) is Harrison Clarity. Guest character voices are provided by people in our work group, except for the role of Cate - we hired an actress for a one-hour recording session and got all of her lines for the first six epsiodes.

Trailer for Documentary

Mostly for fun and experience, I've been filming a documentary about a community of Scottish Gaelic learners for about the past year. There's one other person fully involved, and a few others from the community who are sort of advising and giving us some archive footage.

We're going to keep filming through New Year's Day, but we put together a trailer to show what we're doing. Even if you're not that interested in Scottish Gaelic, you might find it interesting -- it's mostly about the people and their passion for this culture.
